What is the Blue Ridge Games and how can you get in on the friendly competition?
On Aug. 12, WSLS will be bringing an Olympic-style event to our region with the Blue Ridge Games! This event features interactive outdoor activities across five zones, offering a chance to enjoy your favorite hobbies and appreciate the unique beauty of Southwest Virginia.
What are the Blue Ridge Games?
The Blue Ridge Games are a series of interactive outdoor activities, including biking, fishing, hiking, and scavenger hunting. These activities promote friendly competition and provide opportunities to win exciting prizes while exploring the hidden gems of our region.
When does the Blue Ridge Games begin and how long will it last?
The Blue Ridge Games will kick off on Aug. 12, right after the Summer Olympics, and will run through Sept. 6.
Does it cost anything to participate?
Registration for the Blue Ridge Games is $20, which includes an exclusive Blue Ridge Games shirt. Alternatively, you can register for free without the merchandise.

How does it work?
The Blue Ridge Games feature activities across our region, showcasing Southwest Virginia’s hidden gems. There are four categories:
- Hiking
- Biking
- Fishing
- Scavenger hunting
Popular spots include Flat Top at Peaks of Otter and The Blue Ridge Tunnel in Nelson County. Share your adventures on PIN IT by uploading your photos under the ‘Blue Ridge Games’ channel, selecting the activity category, and hitting submit.
How does the point system work?
Each activity earns you points. Once you accumulate 500 points, you will be entered for a prize. Additionally, the top participants in each category—hiking, biking, fishing, and scavenger hunting—will be recognized based on their point totals.
What are the locations?
The Blue Ridge Games will take place across all five of our zones, from the Highlands to Southside. There are plenty of activities for everyone to enjoy.
